Week 25 review: Kairat Almaty extend their lead, FC Astana clinch points at death, and Okzhetpes Kokshetau provide comeback of the year

Kairat Almaty build on their good run as title race pacesetters by defeating FC Atyrau 2-1 on the road courtesy of their effective second-half performance. The Oilers were one goal up after 17 minutes as Stephane Essame headed home Maksat Baizhanov's free-kick, and it wasn't until 64th minute Kairat levelled the match. Bauyrzhan Islamkhan made it all square, while Gerard Gohou eventually punished Atyrau for a number of wasted chances, toe-poking his 21st of the season."The quality of Kairat players — that was the thing that decided the game in the end. At 1-1, we missed three opportunities including an attempt with a goal open. And our opponents have scored," noted Atyrau manager Vladimir Nikitenko.

Playing with ten men about half an hour, FC Astana left it late to grab all three points in a 3-2 win over Ordabasy Shymkent away from home. The Southerners made a dream start as Yerkebulan Tungyshbayev headed the opener 10 minutes into the game but Serikzhan Muzhikov restored the parity in the 30th minute before Junior Kabananga drove a long-range shot to give Astana the lead after the break. Edin Junuzović responded with a header, equalising for Ordabasy who got the numerical advantage three minutes later when Yeldos Akhmetov received a second caution. However, the reigning champions proved strong enough to register last-gasp victory, Tanat Nuserbayev notching from a corner with 94 minutes played. The first Kazakh participants of the UEFA Champions league group stage, Astana remain second, trailing Kairat by a point with a game in hand.

Kazbek Geteriyev delivered a decisive 83rd-minute effort against FC Actobe to allow Irtysh Pavlodar get their third win in four matches. A 1-0 home triumph moved Dimitar Dimitrov's team up two spots in the standings, into top four. And third-placed Aktobe sit four points below summit after four losses in six, two of them at Irtysh.

There are new leaders in the bottom six, Tobol Kostanay claiming the seventh spot with a 2-1 away win against Kaisar Kyzylorda. All the main events have been occured before the interval as Josip Knežević's equaliser was sandwiched between the goals from Ognjen Krasić and Ihar Zyankovich.

Meanwhile, Okzhetpes Kokshetau wiped off a massive deficit at FC Taraz as Alisher Suley, Timur Dosmagambetov and Sanat Zhumakhanov saw their strikes cancelled out in a frenetic 3-3 draw at the Central Stadium in Taraz. The game seemed like being wrapped up, with the host club establishing a three-goal margin after 74 minutes but Okzhetpes showed a lot of character to produce an impressive comeback. Alyaksandr Pawlaw started the overturn the 79th minute before Sergey Gridin and Ivan Cvetković completed the scoring at the stroke of full-time, the Serbian midfielder levelling proceedings from spot.

Coming from behind to defeat Zhetysu Taldykorgan 3-1 at home and opening a three-point gap in the 11th position, Shakhtyor Karagandy boosted their hopes on beating the drop. In the first half, Semirechye outfit took the lead via Dušan Savić only to see Aldin Džidić net for the hosts to set the parity at the break. Zhetysu haven't lost since July but this time found themselves under the pressure that they couldn't absorb, Mihret Topcagić converting the 79th-minute penalty-kick and Maksym Feshchuk adding the Miners' third with seven minutes remaining.
